The Movers Exam

A1 Movers is the second test as part of Cambridge English Qualifications for young learners. This test introduces kids to everyday English, helping them gain confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

At the Movers level children can understand basic instructions or take part in simple conversations. They can also complete basic forms and write notes, including times, dates and places. They will be able to explain differences and tell a story as well as respond to simple questions about their preferences and day to day lives.

Speaking

Part 2 - Telling a story

Story Telling –
What can you say?

Talk about the people, the places, what the people are doing, feeling and saying.

Try and say 3 sentences about each picture.

The children are playing in the park. It is a sunny day. They are very happy.

The man is saying “Can you help me?”

The girl is feeling surprised because the dog is not in his bed.

Use words like and then, after that, next and in the end or finally.

And then it starts to rain.
After that they look for the dog.
Next she goes into the living room.

In the end everyone is laughing.
Finally they find the dog. He is sleeping under the chair.

Part 3 - Odd one out

What can you say?

Use the names for the different objects. Try and make full sentences.
Use words like….
but, and, because, the reason is

Here is an example

The examiner will say…

“Which one is different? This one is different (point to the book). A lemon, a pineapple and an orange are fruit. You eat them. You don’t eat a book. You read it. Now, you tell me about these pictures. Which one is different?”

Picture 2 is different. The belt, the pencil and the sock are all under the bed but in picture 2 the jacket is on the bed.

Picture 2 is different. In pictures 1, 3 and 4 the children are at school but in picture 2 they are at home. They are watching TV and they aren’t wearing a school uniform.

Picture 4 is different because a ball, a clock and an orange are round but a window is square.

Now you try.

Look at the pictures. Can you see which one is different? What can you say? See an example answer on the back.

Which one is different?

Picture 3 is different because the cat, the duck and the hippo are fat/big but the bird is small/thin.

Which one is different?

Picture 3 is different because the jumper, the flower and the toothbrush are pink whereas the kite is yellow.

Which one is different?

Picture 3 is the odd one out. This is because in the other pictures the children are swimming but in picture 3 they are playing tennis.

Which one is different?

Picture 4 is different because the phone, the radio and the plant are on the table. In picture 4 the book is under the table.

Which one is different?

Picture 3 is the odd one out because the other drinks are in a bottle but the water is in a glass.

Which one is different?

Picture 4 is different. The reason is a panda, a rabbit and a kangaroo are all animals but a jumper is clothes. You wear clothes.
